Good morning ladies,
What The Heck Effect, do you know what that is? What The Heck Effect is where you figure you’ve already gone over your calorie allotment, for those who track, so you might just as well go eat a brownie or a pan of them. In my estimation I think that the What The Heck Effect is one of the WORST problems in maintaining good health. Not only can it be catastrophic to a healthy nutritional lifestyle but it does a similar thing to exercise or movement, “well, I haven’t exercised since last week so I guess I’ll take the rest of the week off and start again on Monday”.
We’ve all or most of us have been in this SYNDROME maybe without even thinking about it, I’ve done it…”I did GREAT at breakfast, too many snacks between lunch, I look at my food tracker/journal and I think F..it, I’m going to gobble up as much as I can because tomorrow I’m back to tracking again”. It’s almost in a sick and twisted way its like justification for eating more than we should and moving less than we should.
However, like everything else, the What The Heck Effect once realized can be curbed or even stopped. Just because you’ve eaten over what you should have by lunch doesn’t mean you should go all in until the next day. It should be the opposite, it should mean that we are more aware and watchful about what we put in our mouths for the rest of that day. 200 or 400 calories over what our body really needs is ok on occasion, when you What The Heck Effect it to 1000 extra calories, you are 1/3 of the way to an extra pound gain that week. If you let the What The Heck Effect take you over for a few days, then that extra pound it says on the scale ISN’T water weight!!!
Similarly you NEVER need to WAIT until Monday to begin moving, today is a PERFECT day to begin AGAIN adding exercise into your daily routine. Any extra movement each day is helpful toward your weight loss goal, to mental health clarity, to feeling strong and fit. Your body doesn’t even want you to wait, your body is made to move and it tells you how much it loves it when it starts to expel that salty liquid, some call it SWEAT!!! Has it been so long you’ve forgotten what that feels like, if so then today is the day to be re-reminded! Set a timer for 3 minutes and see how high you can get your heart rate by doing jumping jacks, high knees, burpees (for an example of this go to our FaceBook page at www.facebook.com/yourturnturnwomenkalamazoo and watch the video of Mel or of Clarke) and see how many YOU can do, see how sweaty you can get!
Do NOT What The Heck your day away, Get Your Sweat On!
