Friday Email Submission

Good morning ladies,

It was a cold dreary Saturday last March when I decided to catch the last hour of the Women’s Expo in Kalamazoo. There wasn’t much time so I rushed through to see what I might be interested in. Melodie was in the aisle talking about Yoga class and I was immediately intrigued by the conversation; yet I didn’t know she was one of the Co-Founders at Your Turn. I saw the Your Turn booth and that is when I met Dawn. She started telling me about the vision of Your Turn.

I couldn’t believe that there was actually a group to support women with their health and fitness goals and it was FREE! I signed up to receive the daily email and showed up at my first gathering shortly after. The support that I have received since I have joined this group has been overwhelming!

When I saw the Facebook event for the C25K program in Kalamazoo; I immediately signed up with great enthusiasm. I remember the day the program was starting and Melodie posted a comment that said “Lace up your shoes Monica Whipple.” I remember saying to myself “What have I gotten myself into?” I knew I had to show up. Showing up is half the battle. I can tell you I was so nervous! I was unsure of my abilities to be able to keep up with the other runners. Yet, it wasn’t about keeping up with the others. It was about making a commitment to me and following through with the training. Work it and it will work for you.

Now, as I go into week 8 of the C25K program I can see the progress I have made because I didn’t give up on myself and I showed up to do the training. My self-confidence has increased so much. Also, I have been so blessed to be with these awesome women runners who are a huge encouragement to me. I think running buddies have a special bond and I love it. I am going to try to take this renewed self-confidence and apply it to other health related goals that I have. I know I can make a commitment to myself and my health and keep the commitment. I am aware that I am on a journey and there is so much more growth that is yet to happen. I am so glad that Your Turn is with me on this journey. We are here for each other and each one of us has something beautiful to give.

I remain so touched by the love and support from this group! Thank you to each one of you!!!

Monica

Monica is so right that showing up is ½ the battle. I was telling a woman the other day, “I wish I knew how to get women out from behind their computer”. Coming to a Your Turn Gathering, a Your Turn Demonstration, a Your Turn Activity increases your network and the support you receive.

Your Turn is a give give; you give to us by coming out and meeting us and we give to you the support to achieve the health and wellness goal you have.

At the beginning for Monica she met Dawn, she then met Sarah and Ann and Rene; the list goes on and on and will continue as long as she desires.

Next week, Monday @ 10am, we have a Your Turn Gathering with Stretching Specialist, Laura Sprague, at Maple St. YMCA. Come join us as we learn about stretching techniques for our body and discovering how to not find ourselves stretched too thin emotionally.

  1. Good thing Dawn and Melodie decided to “show up” at the women’s expo. You never know the seeds you plant at those events! Life changing for Monica and countless others who have been touched by your turn.
