Good morning ladies,
“The purpose of life is, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experiences.” ~ Eleanor Roosevelt
Without fear, are you able to live without fear in this moment? Fear is tricky because we think of it as a vice but what if fear isn’t that obvious? When fear is being coy is it even recognized, just a niggling in your tummy or a questioning of some decision you made?
What about tasting life, is that what you do by going through the motions of each day? As today is Wednesday do you go to work the same way, have a similar lunch as yesterday or last week? Does the very idea of tasting life give you a little niggling fear?
“As I watched that zebra drinking peacefully at the watering hole I knew, just knew, that it was living in the moment because how else could he be peacefully drinking with the raw wound of his back quarter having been eaten off.” ~ Dr. Wayne Dyer
This moment is all we have, right here right now. Later is not a guarantee. Planning is a great tool but do you do so at the expense of right now. What is the expression on your face at this moment, how is your pulse, can you feel it? Are you warm enough, rushing or calm and peaceful?
Not every single moment of every single day need be bursting with desire with life at its greatest. There are times in everyday that should be calm and peaceful. There are times in everyday that should be exciting and meaningful. There are times in everyday that should be love being expressed.
Tasting life, diminishing fear and living in the moment can be quite challenging things to achieve but isn’t there a little part of you that likes a challenge. Why do people do crossword puzzles, Sudoku, Words with Friends; these things are done to feel that challenge. The excitement and anticipation as you put in that 4thfrom the last word down with the knowledge that you are about there. When you put in that number on your Sukoku page and you know, you just know that you’ve got it. That is in the moment.
Last night I didn’t want to take my boys to a Bats exhibit at the Library but I knew they would have fun. We went and I sat, for the 45 minutes, without thinking of anything else. I was experiencing life with my boys in that very moment, watching their awe and desire to touch one of those bats.
Tasting life doesn’t have to mean skydiving, it means experiencing something that puts you in that moment, when you look at the clock and are stunned that that amount of time has gone by.
I had a fear about tasting that simple part of life last night; I was afraid that I wouldn’t get my chores done at home, I was missing running with the Runners of Kalamazoo on their Week 8 Day 1. However, I let those fears go and got into the moment and I am so thankful I did. Was that moment end of the world exciting, no, but it was a meaningful, expressing love time in my day.
A while ago I wrote to you about looking in the mirror and stating “What would I do if I weren’t afraid”; have you done that? If you did what popped out of your mouth? Have you entertained that thought of following through with it? I’ll make a bet in the moment of you beginning the steps of following through you would be in the moment and you would be tasting life regardless of the fear.
“You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do.” ~ Eleanor Roosevelt
