Fab 5

Good morning,
Happy Thursday!  I am especially excited about today.  The original five are getting together after a short stretch of time that life has separated us for a while.  You may have heard the story of how Melodie and I decided to start a training group. What you may not know is what an unlikely group we were.  We did not know each other. The only thing we had in common was that we were occasionally at the same place at the same time. We did not have a common goal, we created one.  Our goal was to get to a finish line.  We were all at different distances and different pace, but we made a plan, and decided 2 or 3 days a week we would dominate the cardio room at the Y. One of us drank coffee while on the treadmill, one of us had MS and dragged one leg.
Onlookers were sometimes appalled at the nitty gritty of our conversations, but it was the most important component to make the time on the treadmill go by a little faster.  The locker room became our club house and the only rule of the club was if you didn’t show up you were going to miss out on something good. I whole hearted give credit to the fab five for getting me to the finish line.  I do not believe I would have done it without them.  Could have, yes, would have, absolutely not. The core of this group was positive, we evolved from exercising together to cooking together to dyeing our hair and waxing (sorry TMI).  Remember we did not know each other, we had no preconceived judgements about each other and we were willing to show up. Individually we have kept in touch but as I said earlier life had separated us. One of us is carrying for a dying parent, one of us is struggling raising teens, one of us has been diagnosed with a terminal illness. The goal is no longer to get to the finish line, but to make it through the day. We are getting together for coffee instead of kettlebell.  It is showing up, it is laughing, it is listening, it is sharing, it is wanting the best for each other and giving each other the boost to be your best and to make the best of your situation.  If you have a fab five or four or fifty tell us about it. Your Turn wants you to have a support system, a group of women that will support you to be your best. All it takes is to occasionally be at the same place at the same time.  We give you that opportunity every week all you have to do is show up.

  • 12pm – Spinning at Maple YMCA
  • 12:10pm – YT Gathering at Bronson Athletic Club
  • 7pm – Zumba at Portage YMCA

St. Joseph Co.

  • 6:30pm – HIIT at George Washington Carver Center in Three Rivers

  1. I envy the Fab 5. I have women I workout with and that has evolved over the past 6 months. I started with a great group of women, life has changed and demanded them to go other ways. I still see and talk to them, but there is a bond when you sweat with someone as you begin a wellness journey together. We don’t workout together anymore, I miss that terribly. I have new women I workout with and they are equally as important as my first group, but the connection is different. I feel like a lost ship because of being in between two groups and not having a place to dock.
