A Letter To My Fat Unhealthy Self

A Letter To My Fat Unhealthy Self,
It has been a struggle for you the last few years. You have allowed yourself to become overweight and unhealthy, while taking care of everyone but yourself. You have allowed YOU to become last on the many pages of the to do list. You have become what you swore you would never become; the unfit stay at home mom.
A while ago all that changed! You realized that you are important! No one can do it for you! In order for you to take care of others you have to take care of YOU first. I am so so so proud of YOU for doing that. You made the most important decision of your life. The one that says you want to live a long healthy life. You are accomplishing great things now because of that oh-so important decision. That first step off the couch has brought you such great things. That first step lead to a 5k, the first since high school, that lead to an obstacle course 5k mud-run. The steps that lead to you saying out loud for others to hear: I want to run the Princess 1/2 marathon. To have other women who were complete strangers to you say; I’m in! I’m in to travel to Florida, to run in a tutu with you at 5:00 in the morning. I’m in!!! What madness! All this, and so much more because you said ENOUGH to being fat and unhealthy.
Do you remember all the times over the years that you would quietly sneak bigger clothes into the house because you were to ashamed to admit that you had gotten to big for your other clothes? The pain of admitting even to yourself that the button on your pants were leaving an imprint on your stomach flab. The horrible thoughts and excuses you made because you did not want to go swimming with your children because of the embarrassment you felt of being in a swimsuit.
Not anymore!!!! YOU are now wearing smaller sizes than all those months ago. YOU are shouting from the roof tops that all of your old shirts are too big. You are going swimming with your children and happily squeezing in a water workout, thinking that this great family time. How you feel now is going to be what pushes you to do more, and better what you are doing now. It’s not about the number on the scale, or the size of the clothes. It is about the happiness that comes with movement. It’s believing in yourself, knowing that YOU are worth it!!!! Knowing that it is OK, more than OK to be selfish and take time for yourself. During those moments that are yours it is spent, running, walking, biking. YOU are moving forward at all times.
Somehow, a switch was turned on and you realized that YOU are important. That was a turning point in your life and YOU are not looking back, Besides, YOU can’t look back, because there are finish lines you have yet to cross. There is more moving to be done. Know that there will be setbacks, but your determination and spunk will get you through them. Know that I love YOU for making ME the person that I am today. I can’t wait till you see the new YOU in the mirror!!!!!
